Coach Charlie Equels was appointed as head coach of the Patrick Henry Boys’ Water Polo program in 2012. Prior to coaching at Patrick Henry, Coach Equels coached at various high schools around the county, including Canyon Crest Academy. With Coach Equels at the helm, Patrick Henry has maintained a competitive Boys’ program consistently competing among the top teams in San Diego. After seven seasons, Coach Equels’ guided Patrick Henry to a CIF-SDS Division II championship in 2019 (1st in program history).

Coach Equels is also the current Girls’ Head Coach at Patrick Henry and served as the Head Swim and Dive Coach for three season (2016, 2017, 2018). During his tenure, multiple swimmers and divers competed and won CIF-SDS championships.

Outside of Patrick Henry, Coach Equels is the Head Coach of the 18u Boys program for San Diego Shores. Additionally, Coach Equels coached the San Diego Shores 12u Boys’ program, the UCSD Womens’ Club Program and served as the Olympic Development Coach for the state of California (2009, 2010, 2011).

Coach Equels was a four-year varsity athlete at Santana High School. Coach Equels graduated from Santana in 2004, as a CIF 1st Team All-American and a two-time Grossmont Union High School District Player of the Year (2003, 2004).
